The job is easy, but there is just enough of a challenge to keep it interesting. I have to be fast and accurate, while maintaining a friendly demeanor. I have to remember a fair number of four-digit codes for produce and bulk food items. I have to know store policies. I have to be familiar with item locations, so that I can direct customers to the products they are looking for. I have to be comfortable handling fairly large amounts of money.
Job expectations and consequences for mistakes and transgressions are well-defined. Everyone is treated equally under a comprehensive system that “rewards” a set number of points, usually two or three. These drop off after a year. An accumulation of fifteen points during a twelve-month period will result in a reprimand. Additional transgressions after a reprimand result in a suspension, and eventually termination, unless enough points have dropped off to keep the total under fifteen. top us business schools
The store manager is passionate about his store. He provides outstanding leadership which results in a positive and professional work environment. He also has a good sense of humor. The interaction between coworkers is friendly and professional. We cooperate with each other, give assistance when needed, and share a laugh or two in the break room.
Our customers are for the most part friendly and appreciative of our services. I take the occasional bad-tempered or rude individuals in stride, because I have come to realize that their behavior has nothing to do with me personally. I am just a convenient target for their displeasure with themselves or with their lives. On the rare occasions a customer’s words threaten to get to me, I remember that I only have to spend a few minutes with him, whereas he has to live with himself for the rest of his life.
My company makes a difference in people’s lives by providing them with a place to shop for their groceries at fair and reasonable prices. One of our local TV newscasts did a price comparison between major grocery stores and found our store to have the lowest prices in town. It makes me feel good to be a part of this. My paycheck covers my bills and a few extras. I am fairly compensated for my work. top mba programs
The benefits my company provides are exceptional. We get paid vacation up to thirty days and paid sick days. Health, dental, and vision insurance costs under $50.00 for the whole family and provides quality care for a very low co-pay. Life and car insurance, individual or family counseling, and a 401K plan are available at little or no cost. The most amazing benefit is the company’s profit share program. All employees receive shares in the company according to the hours they have worked during the year. These are not paid for by the employees. In addition, all employees are given gift cards in December for $100 to $200 worth of groceries and get a cash bonus in April, ranging from $100 to $1000, depending on longevity and hours worked.
